The origins of the Maison, however, are deeply rooted in Greece. This special bond is now honored again with the recent opening of the new BVLGARI Flagship store at number 20 of Voukourestiou Street in Athens in collaboration with KESSARIS, a long-time partner.
Constantly present in the Greek capital since 1992, BVLGARI continues to strengthen the connection between its home city and its country of origin with this new milestone.
BVLGARI has a special and tight bond with Greece, as the founder of the Maison, Sotirio Bulgari was a talented silversmith of Greek origins.
Coming from a small mountain Greek village situated in Epirus, a region famed for its skilled metalworkers whose craft had been handed down from father to son since Byzantine times, Sotirio moved to Italy seeking his fortune.
He opened his first jewelry store in Rome in 1884, the year that marks the official birth of the BVLGARI Maison. In 1905, the dream came true with the opening of the historic store at 10 Via dei Condotti, where the iconic Flagship BVLGARI Boutique is housed to this day.
This ambitious Greek silversmith has brought with him the rich savoir faire of his territory and a peculiar know-how which treats craftsmanship as an art in its own right. These features that are closely related to Italy’s legendary artisanal tradition have been at the core of BVLGARI’s vision for over 135 years.
BVLGARI was born as a family business and it carries the values, the taste, the cultural legacy and the intuitions of those who founded and made it grow over the years.
The Greek soul of the Maison not only relives in the family heritage and its artisanal legacy, it has also influenced BVLGARI’s creativity with a plethora of collections celebrating the ancient Roman and Mediterranean roots of the House.
A collision of Roman classicism and references to the brand’s Mediterranean roots, the new BVLGARI boutique, has opened in the heart of Athens showcasing the jewelry, watches and accessories’ collections of the Maison.
Located in the most renowned and fashionable Voukourestiou Street, the store extends over 120 square meters distributed on two levels.
Entering the boutique is a true journey of discovery, an imaginary walk through the magnificent splendour of Rome, experienced through the language of interior design and exquisite materials.
The impresive grand chandelier over the oval jewelry counter is a unique masterpiece of elegance and craftsmaship.
In keeping with the architectural identity exclusively developed by Peter Marino for Bulgari, a combination of spectacular marbles from Pavonazzetto to Breccia di Seravezza are combined with ultra-refined walnut wood floors and elegant brass details.
Show windows lined in Saffron-coloured silk recalling the apricot light and the sunsets in the Eternal City, infuse warmth.
Pop art prints from Andy Warhol add an additional touch of colour and contemporary sense to the space.
The ribbon was officially cut on May the 12th with the presence of Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of the BVLGARI Group, Lucia Silvestri BVLGARI’s Jewellery Creative Director among the Bulgari team and the Kessaris family.
BVLGARI and KESSARIS hosted an unforgettable exclusive event. The location couldn’t be other than one of the most spectacular venues of the city, the Zappeion Building, an architectural jewel for Greece.
